Students attending Lilian Schick School, in Bon Accord, organized
a bottle drive to raise funds to fight the recruitment of child soldiers.

Students in Melissa Steeves’s class were driven to think globally after completing a novel study of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Number the Stars tells the story of a Jewish family during the Second World War. The Grade 5 Logos students at Lilian Schick School, in Bon Accord, undertook positive action to help children who are affected by war. Through research they identified World Vision’s child soldier program as a worthy cause. They organized, planned and advertised a campaign, then collected and sorted recyclable bottles and cans. Through students’ efforts and those of the school and community more than $320 was raised for World Vision.
